Edith Newbold-Jones (1862-1937), known as Edith Wharton by her married name, is the writer of this month of January 2022 at the Municipal Library of Ibiza.
To mark the 160th anniversary of his birth, the Library has compiled part of his work to show it to the public.
Wharton began composing poems at age 14 and a collection published by Atlantic Monthly magazine.
In 1902 he published his first novel, 'The Valley of Decision'. According to some experts, his most successful work, 'Etham Frome', arrived in 1911.
She was the first woman to come to the Athos Mountain, a place closed to women until then.
In 1920 he published 'The Age of Innocence', novel that earned him the prestigious Pulitzer Prize in 1921.
