we interviewed Mateo Ullùa, who tells us what it is like to work in Cana Sofia Apartments, a complex located a few steps from the beach in Cala Llonga, Ibiza, which has all the services and amenities, a large swimming pool and a lively Chill Out Bar.
-How long have you been running the Cana Sofía apartments?
We are already in the fifth year, it is the fifth season with this one.
-Tell us the story, why Cana Sofía?
We are a group of people who were interested in working on the subject of services, We all had experience in this sector and this place arose that we loved. We liked everything, for example the layout of the building, which although it has a part on the main street is still a place with privacy and lots of light. Lots of light and very green! Wherever you look, it's green, and there is a silence ... the truth is that this place transmits a lot of peace.
-What expectations did you have when the summer started and what has been the reality?
This year we were very nervous and very anxious to start, as we all imagine. Waiting for the starting gun to open and expectations were good, as we had a lot sold in August. In the end we have worked very well even though it was only half a season, but hey, answering your question, the reality has been better than we expected so we are happy and surprised. Usually many dutch come And, despite the restrictions and the extra expenses of the PCRs, for example, they have been the same. Since the pandemic, last year the client we had was practically national and this season 2021 there has been a lot of French, Dutch and also national public.
-What do you like most and least about your job?
I love dealing with the public, the whole team is quite flexible and we take care that, despite being a company, the treatment what is offered is very familiar and close, We also highlight it in all publications. We have a good time and it creates a very nice bond. The most difficult thing is… something that happens to me lately. Many people have Ibiza as a very luxurious place and they come with a high expectation of luxury, when it is a very rural and very village island. I think that is what I like the least, that superficial view of the island. That exaggerated consumption of everything, air conditioning, plastic ... It is one thing to consume more on vacation to have a good time, and another is consuming more without any kind of conscience.
-Tell me something curious that has happened to you here.
So funny a customer from London asked us about the tubeIt was very funny for us because of the stop that would take him to Cala Llonga. We find it curious that they ask us a lot about the sea temperature and even that of the pool, that surprises us. Something that we love is that we have many people who have come as single, then with their partner, also pregnant and then have continued to come with their newborn child, and with more children. You see the children grow up and when they come, it is as if your nephews came, it is very beautiful!
-What type of client do you have here?
A little depending on the times of the year. The most beautiful months for me are April, May, June. Here come many familiesWe have large apartments for you to come and spend many days, they are spacious, comfortable and cheap. At the end of July and in August a more eclectic and young audience comes, although always in a much more relaxed line than in Playa d'en Bossa.
-What do you ask the most?
Something that surprises me, since we have sea and beach here next door and everywhere, is the large pool demand. They also ask us recommendations for dining or going out.
-What restaurants do you recommend?
We recommend all over the island, it depends a bit what you want. Around here for example, one that is infallible: Casa Piedra, everyone is delighted. Too Altre Balagar y SOS. Depending on the time, we also recommend typical Cas pages, if you want to see sunset for example too Es Ventall. Puff is that there are many and it depends on what they ask me.
-Beaches that you recommend?
-How would you define the apartments in three words?
Close, quiet and green.
