El Consell de Ibiza presented the Christmas 'Caramelles' calendar of this 2021/2022, a Ibizan tradition with centuries of history. Es Xacoters de sa torre, sa colla des Puig de Missa, sa colla de l'Horta de Jesús and Santa Gertrudis de Fruitera they will be in charge of interpreting these unique songs.
If you don't know what 'caramelles' are, we'll tell you. Are songs announce the birth of Jesus through doubled verses and the sound of the flute, the 'spasí', the drum and the Ibizan castanets. It is a composition in three acts that last approximately twenty minutes. Christmas 'caramelles', along with Easter ones, are the oldest sample of the traditional religious songbook in Ibiza and Formentera.
