Abel Matutes Juan, politician, businessman and banker from Ibiza, has been awarded the XNUMXth Habsburg Otto Prize, corresponding to the year 2022, granted by the Spanish Committee for the Pan-European Union, for his role as former Minister of Foreign Affairs and former Commissioner for the regional integration of Spain in the European Union, as well as his work on the draft European Constitution.
The award was decided at the Board of Directors of the Spanish Committee for the Pan-European Union on October 25, chaired by Florentino Portero and with Carlos Uriarte as secretary general, considering “that his essential work in the European Commission for the achievement of Monetary UnionIn addition to the work carried out in the field of european foreign policy for the brotherhood and friendship of Europe with Latin America and the countries of the southern region have laid a fundamental foundation for the Union's current relations with these areas. "
Abel Matutes has been a senator of the Kingdom of Spain (1977-1982), a deputy in the Cortes Generales (1982-1986), a member of the European Commission (1986-1994), a deputy in the European Parliament (1994-1996), a minister of Foreign Affairs (1996-2000), and is currently president and owner of Palladium Hotel Group and the Matutes Companies Group.
