The Consell de Ibiza has launched a new campaign to promote the island's local product under the framework of the campaign "Això Yes it is from Ibiza", this time to promote the use of the Ibizan almond in the elaboration of the "panellets", The typical sweets of the festival of Tots Sants (All Saints) on November 1.
The campaign will serve to distinguish the panellets made with Ibiza almonds with a special distinctive, which will be visible in the three collaborating ovens: Can Vadell, Can Bufí and Can Cuevas.
The insular director of Rural and Marine Affairs, Joan Marí, explained that the cultivation of almonds "It has been reducing a lot in recent years and we need initiatives like these to encourage people to cultivate it and recover some of our traditional crops".
And it is that the almond has accompanied the history of Ibiza since the Phoenicians introduced it here, although today many of the plantations of almond trees on the island are aging and ceasing to produce, so new trees will have to be planted. For this, however, it is necessary to create a marketing channel retail in local markets, to encourage these new plantations.
The Ibiza almond is highly appreciated for its sweetness and quality and it was traditionally used for luxury sweets such as panellets or Nadal Sauce, as it is a very tasty product.
This year, it is estimated that the three ovens participating in the campaign will use about 500 kilos of Ibizan almonds.
