The San José City Council has released new information posters to warn users that Cala d'Hort is a Beach without Smoke, the first in the municipality of San José and the first on the island that is included in the network promoted by the Balearic Ministry of Health.
The posters have been designed by Fanny Estefania Pincay Mendoza, winner of a contest called by the City Council among the Graphic Design students of the School of Arts.
Fines for smoking?
And can they fine you from now on for smoking on this beach? No, this declaration of Cala d'Hort as a Beach without Smokes is more an action of awareness which does not provide for fines or coercive measures.
Of course, it does not hurt to remind you that tobacco is the main pollutant on beaches. To give you an idea, a single cigarette butt can contaminate up to 10 liters of seawater and 50 liters of fresh water.
Therefore, if you are a smoker and you are not able to quit smoking on the beach, be responsible and, please, take your butts, just like all the other garbage or waste that you may generate.
Video surveillance system on the beaches
On the other hand, the City Council has informed that very soon it will put into operation a video surveillance system in Cala Vedella, Cala Tarida and Cala Comte that, without recording images, evaluates the number of individuals to establish the degree of occupation of these beaches.
These devices will facilitate a classification of these in three levels, such as a traffic light: green when the occupation is optimal, orange when the influx increases and red from 80% of occupancy. From that moment the restriction of access to the beach will be studied.
This information will be available on the City Council website and also through an app.
