The fact that Ibiza es one of the favorite destinations for the gay community, is something we already knew. The tolerance, respect and freedom that define our island and our way of life is something that fills us with pride.
Now we have a good confirmation of this with the publication by the Gayborhood Foundation from a list of #Gayborhood neighborhoods or "gay sanctuaries" around the world. Among them, of course, is our beloved street of The Virgin of Ibiza, Also called Carrer de la Mare de Déu, one of the traditionally liveliest and funniest areas of the Puerto de Ibiza.
La Foundation gayborhood works to publicize cities and areas that represent a safe environment for the international LGTB + community. Normally, when a neighborhood is considered “#Gayborhood” it is because its open character and gay friendly it is already widely consolidated, so it is very strange that it stops appearing on the list.
Among the requirements that a neighborhood must meet to be on the list are having a community support "proud and visible" and that risk of homophobic crime sea very low, something that our beloved Calle de La Virgen fully complies with.
In all the world there are so only 33 other neighborhoods which are also #Gayborhood. Some are well-known places like the Soho Londoner the Greenwich Village in New York, the Parisian Marsh, Barrio Alto of Lisbon, the Pink Zone in Mexico City 0 The castro in San Francisco.
