Urban art in Ibiza

Street Art in Ibiza is gaining more and more strength. The Ibiza Bloop Festival, artists like Hosh or Jerom and galleries such as Adda Gallery or Art Projects Ibiza contribute significantly to its recognition on the island

Street art, urban art or street art. Call it what you call it, it is clear that it has more and more weight in society as an artistic expression.

This practice has not gone unnoticed in Ibiza, which has its own artists such as Jerom or Hosh. In addition, every year there are more companies that bet on this type of art to give their businesses a point of distinction.

Street art settled definitively in Ibiza in 2011 with the birth of Ibiza Bloop Festival, an event created by Biokip Labs dedicated to proactive art. Every year, artists from all over the world take the island to share their works or artistic skills around a theme that revolves around social problems. Thus, through large murals, sculptures, interactive installations, urban art, photography, music or video mappings among many other modalities, the public is invited to reflect on current issues.

Javier García Colomo, Founder and CEO of Cool Tour Spain, In this article he offers us his vision of Street Art in Ibiza:

FIVE PROJECTS THAT WILL FLOOD IBIZA DE STREET ART IN 2020

With the summer season over, creative minds are working on organizing and managing street art projects in Ibiza for 2020 and 2021. Among others, we can find:

- Adda Gallery
- Art Projects Ibiza
- Bloop festival
- Local projects / artists
- Hotels

FESTIVAL BLOOP. THE MOST IMPORTANT EVENT OF STREET ART IN IBIZA

Without a doubt, BLOOP festival is an artistic reference on the island. Since 2011 they have been holding, in a sustainable way, an event dedicated to proactive art, the purpose of which is to reflect on existing social problems.

Marine beings, appearance, changes or parallel universes have been some of the themes that the festival has addressed in previous editions. In addition, it has managed to solve a problem of tourist overcrowding by offering a leisure alternative to travelers who visit the island for its nightlife and beaches.

TWO GALLERIES OF POST-GRAFFITI IN IBIZA YOU CANNOT LOSE

There is no doubt that graffiti & street art artists (and their representatives) have joined the bandwagon of contemporary art and have become part of the usual panorama of gallery owners from all over Europe.

An example of this is the case of Anna Dimitrova, a cultural manager who ensures that "street art in Ibiza and in Spain in general is being seen as an investment." For this reason, he decided to open the Adda Gallery in June 2018, a space for modern art in Ibiza.

-ADDA GALLERY

The exhibitions take place in the Hotel Paradiso Art and they serve as a sample of different artists from the current national scene. Among others are Sabek, Abel Iglesias, Félix Roca and Chamo San. In addition, the ADDA gallery has offices in Barcelona and Paris, making the connection between artists and consumers easier.

-ART IBIZA PROJECTS

It is a project space in Ibiza that works in association with the private collection Lune Rouge. Its annual program allows the exhibitions to be divided into two:

-Winter: dedicated to a curated selection of works belonging to the Lune Rouge collection.

-Estival: in which they invite an artist within the collection to carry out a specific project for the island in cooperation with the artist's representative gallery.

Its philanthropic mission is to contribute culturally with the island through a pioneering program of exhibitions with both established and emerging artists.

Among the artists who have already exhibited in its rooms are Takashi Murakami, Tracey Emin or William Mackinnon.

LOCAL RENAME ARTISTS

On an island with so much coming and going from artists of all types of industry, it is important to support the authors of the best graffiti in Ibiza, hyper-realistic and classy.

The work of these two boys began at street level and in the workshop. Today they have managed to get many private assignments and have hours of experience.

-HOSH

Joshua started in graffiti around the year 1991, just at the time when the Space nightclub began to bet on electronic music. The influence of this Ibizan artist comes mainly from cartoons, pop art and Graffiti.

He is currently developing his work as a muralist and his professional career has opened the doors of galleries such as Montana Gallery, in Barcelona, or the Biondetta Art Gallery in Madrid.

HOTELS BETTING FOR THE STREET ART IN IBIZA

Some hotels in Ibiza have decorated their facades with works by urban artists, whether famous or not. Among these accommodations, we find the following:

-Ushuaïa Ibiza Beach Hotel

Okudart and Felipe Pantone were the two artists in charge of the exterior decoration of the Ushuaïa Ibiza Beach Hotel, located in Playa d'en Bossa.

The 'wall burners' took place thanks to the sponsorship of BURN, brand of energy drinks owned by Coca Cola.

-Urban Spaces Ibiza

Another of the spaces where to stay in the heart of Ibiza and that attracts attention for its artistic distinction is an aparthotel of the Via Púnica.

Its rooms are decorated in a striking and contemporary individual style, as is the entrance.
