Although he seemed to have experienced an improvement, former pilot Ángel Nieto has died as a result of an accident that suffered the 26 of July 2017
The former pilot Angel Nieto, an icon of world motorcycling, has died on Thursday 3 of August of 2017 to the 70 years at the Nuestra Señora del Rosario Polyclinic in Ibiza as a result of the injuries suffered in a accident the past 26 of July of 2017.
The Zamorano, who was 13 times world motorcycling champion (12 + 1 he always said by superstition), had an accident when driving with a quad and was rammed from behind by a tourist on the road to Santa Gertrudis. The driver, of German nationality and resident on the island, tested negative for blood alcohol levels.
Despite the severity of the collision, Ángel Nieto's evolution seemed positive and it had been reported that he was beginning to wake up from the induced coma, however last morning he experienced a sudden worsening that forced him to perform an “urgent decompressive craniectomy”, due to of massive cerebral edema.
Today finally family sources have confirmed the death of this iconic character who was so linked to the life of the island.
