The Diocesan Museum of Ibiza, founded in 1965, is located inside the Cathedral of Santa Maria de las Nieves in Dalt Vila
The Diocesan Museum of Ibiza, also known as the Cathedral Museum, is accessed from inside the Cathedral of Santa María de las Nieves. It occupies the chapter house and the sacristy of this emblematic temple located at the top of Dalt Vila.
It opened its doors to the public in 1965 and through its showcases, paintings and sculptures we can get close to an interesting sample of the liturgical art of the Pitiusas. In it you can learn about the history of the church in Ibiza and Formentera from the 13th century to the 20th century.
Among its pieces stands a Silver Custody of golden XIV century that reproduces a tower of Gothic style. In addition, the museum houses a collection of highly valued traditional Ibizan jewelry.
It was renovated in the 2006 year, giving it a modern look that contrasts with that of the rest of the cathedral.
Once here, you can take advantage of the visit to also get closer to the Archaeological Museum of Ibiza and Formentera and Madina Yabisa interpretation center. They are located a few meters, right in the square that you will see at the entrance of the Cathedral.
